DOUBLE PAGE SPREADS
This is a double page spread I chose to use is the Hip Hop and
R&B magazine, XXL. In the first double page spread the I Have chosen there
is no headline the only piece of heading is his name which is in the far corner
on the right hand side. There’s also a fore-quote which is also known as a
headline. There is one main photograph which covers up the right hand page it is
a photograph of bowwow, the name in the corner also belongs to this artist.
The type of lighting used for this photograph is quite high key as it makes the
image bright and visible to see it also shows off the looks and features the
rapper has. For example a main feature that stands out is his tattoos. His Nvc
shows strength and importance to the audience, as he is facing directly towards
the camera while is flexing his muscles, making him look more imposing. The use
of eye contact with the camera makes us as the audience think that the image is
looking directly at us. This represents that he is focused on being in the rap industry, which is hard and tough to break into and be taken seriously.
The fore-quote on the other side of the page that
states ‘you just have to give them a little edge cause if I keep making Bounce
With Me, they’re gonna keep putting me in that category of kiddie rapper. I’m 18
now.’Shows that the artist hopes and wishes that people can take him more
seriously as he has now grown up and matured. The image has being place in the
center of the page so hat the reader can get his attention straight away. This is so nothing detracts from him,
and the shot has been taken in sharp focus which makes his image more
detailed.
There are two columns in this article with a large range of words these words are spilt in to two columns to structure the
page well they are 1015 words in this article all together.

NAS DPS
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/7/4/13749803/4411182.jpg?332)
Denotation:
On the left hand side is a image of a middle age black man sitting in an area that looks like a gym staring directly into the camera. This man is a rapper named 'Nas' The photo carry's on over into the right hand side of the DPS leaving on a small section for the text. There is a lot of text this is the reason why he font size quite small to be able to fit all the information in . There is a magnified section from the text on the bottom right hand corner of the page which seems to be something important about Nas.
the artist's name is located on the top right hand corner of the page in stylized font which is also larger than most of the text on the page. There isn't really a distinctive colour scheme set on both pages but there only seems to be white grey and some sort of dark burgundy colour.
Mise En Scene; Main Image:
Costume:
The only clothing we can clearly see on Nas is a string vest, The reason for this may be due to the fact that he is in a gym so he wouldn't need any expensive clothing whilst working out although we can see that the artist is wearing a large piece of jewellery which isn't what you would normally see people wearing while at a gym.
Non-Verbal Communication
The artist has his hands clenched together and a blank facial expression starring directly at the camera, this shows the audeince that the artist is a very serious character and he only cares about his This could show that he's thinking about something when there it be his music, family or people around him.
Setting:
the main setting where the image has been taken is in the Gym.
Lighting:
The only source of light the photograph has captured seem to be using is from the open window behind NAS this is so we are able to see the model, however the left side of him is darker the the right as the light is coming from the right of the room.
Props:
They are gym equipment in the background to let us know that NAS is a very masculine male that strongly determined and cares about his appearance.
Text:
The way the font is used for the word 'NAS' and the first letter for the first paragraph is interesting as it looks like font that would have been used in the olden days although this doesn't not really fit with the genre of music that links with Nas its very different so i am sure the editor was going for a different unique look like everyone in the rap, hip hop or r&b industry so it isn't really effective.
Target Audience:
The target audience would be Black middle class teenage male and young black adults, This links well as it seems to be the same for most of these Rap/Hip-Hop magazines.
